The Grave Creek Mound Archaeological Complex

One of the largest and most famous of the burial mounds built by the native Adena people is Grave Creek Mound. Located 11 miles south of Wheeling is the remnants of a massive undertaking. 60,000 tons of earth was moved to build this the 60+ feet high and 240 feet in diameter structure.

Also on the site is the Delf Norona Museum and the West Virginia’s Archaeological Research Center.

Open year round, the Delf Norona Museum is the perfect place to catch up on some Native American History.
