Heritage Farm Museum and Village

Heritage Farm Museum and Village

The Heritage Farm Museum and Village is an open air & living history museum. The museum focuses on early pioneer life and Appalachia’s cultural history.

The mission of this Farm is to preserve the traditions and history of 19th-century farm life in Appalachia. Heritage Farm spans over 25,000 square feet on a 500-acre property.

The Heritage Farm Museum and Village is a source of renewal and hope for the Appalachian region. It’s home to over fifteen structures, which include five log cabin inns with contemporary facilities, event space that can accommodate over 500 people, and seven award-winning museums.

It also features a Retreat Center wired with modern technology, Artisan Center, themed Way Back Weekends, and multiple attractions. Heritage Farm has been welcoming and delighting guests from all around the world for over 20 years.

HISTORIC BUILDINGS

There are over 30 historic buildings on the property along with a train caboose, an operating sawmill, and five log cabin inns. The Conway Homestead Site is a popular filming location, and it has hosted “America’s Greatest Feud,” which is one of the famous documentary filmed by the History Channel.

The historical buildings in Heritage Farm are available for overnight accommodations, including a barn facilitating up to 40 people and the caboose for overnight stay. Tourists can even rent these buildings for various events.

The log church is an iconic building in Heritage Farm and hosts different events, including weddings throughout the year. It has two reception halls that can accommodate up to 300 guests.

BEST THINGS TO DO

Besides the museum exhibits, people can enjoy hiking on the five mile trail throughout the property. Here, you will find a petting zoo complete with a tortoise, piglets, and lamas.

Moreover, the Artisan Center is home to the famous Artisan Guild. Currently, it houses studio space for about eight artists, which include weaver, wool spinner, broom maker, potter, woodworker, and letterpress printer.

You can also visit the artists while they work in their studios. The best thing about the Artisan Center in Heritage Farm is that you can participate in workshops hosted at the Maker Space. You can also buy wares from the artisans at the museum’s gift shop.

ONGOING PROGRAMS AND EDUCATION

Although you can explore the place on your own, we recommend you to take a guided tour. A guide will take you through the museums, a visit to the petting zoo and the artisan village, barns, and much more.

May officially kicks off the main season. Each Saturday from the months of May all the way to December, people come here for Way Back Weekends, which host different events and invite artisans/reenactors to recreate the nostalgic and historic 19th-century Farm.

May to December is the busiest season in the Farm. However, you can have an appointment to take the tour from January through April.

The Heritage Farm Museum and Village offer a unique experience to people of all ages in terms of relishing the good old days and enjoy a fun-filled, relaxing, and educational experience.
