Winterplace Ski Resort is a ski resort located in Ghent, West Virginia on Raleigh County’s Flat Top Mountain. The southernmost ski resort in West Virginia, they have the largest snow tubing facility in the state.

THINGS TO DO AT WINTERPLACE SKI RESORT

Skiing and Snowboarding

Well of course this is going to be first on the list. Winterplace has over 90 ski-able acres spread out over 27 slopes. They have 10 lifts and free night skiing if you buy an all day pass.

The vertical drop of the mountain is 603 feet with courses from easy to advanced. If skiing or snowboarding isn’t your thing, or if you just have bad knees like me, there’s always snow tubing.

Snow tubing

Winterplace has the largest snow tubing park in West Virginia. While this may not be your thing and you’ll want to stick to the slopes, it’s a great perk so you can enjoy the day with friends, family, and kids that don’t ski or board.

Take Lessons

If you’re thinking about skiing (or snowboarding) for the first time or you don’t want to be the one to teach your friend to ski, Winterplace has you covered. They’re so confident in their instructors that if you don’t learn to ski from their class, you can take it again for free. Choose to take a class with your own gear or pay an extra $20 (roughly) to rent gear.

For The Kids

If you’re bringing your kids, you have 5 options depending on their age and experience.

First, if they know how to ski or snowboard, let them loose on the slopes.

Second, if they’re 13 or older, have them take lessons from above.

Third, if they’re aged 4-12, Winterplace offers SkiWee & Snow Explorer lessons. It’s a full day designed to give your kids a solid foundation to work off of for the rest of their life.

Fourth, if your kids aren’t interested in skiing or snowboarding, look above and realize that they can still have a blast snow tubing.

Lastly, if your little one is 6 months to 3 years old, Winterplace offers an onsite daycare. If you plan to go this route, call 2 days ahead since space is limited.

WHERE TO GET GEAR

If you’re not an avid skier with your own gear, no worries. Winterplace has gear to rent for the day.

SKIING OR SNOW TUBING FOR GROUPS

If you’re planning to come in a group, be sure to call ahead and get the group rates. Winterplace starts giving group rates to groups that are 6 or larger.
